August 3: The Yankees are set to select the contract of top prospect George Lombard Jr., according to Jack Curry of YES Network. This clears 26-man roster room for both Lombard and Heliot Ramos, who was picked up in a trade with the Giants today. Selected 26th overall in the 2023 draft, Lombard has become a fixture on top-100 lists over the last couple of years. Between his defense, speed, and ability to draw walks, Lombard looks to have a pretty high floor as a regular player. Lombard almost surely is coming up too late to really factor into the Rookie of the Year race, as well.
