Republican candidate for Minnesota governor Mike Lindell allegedly was giving away free, small MyPillows and copies of his autobiography on the campaign trail, according to our sister station KSTP. Campaign finance reports show he bought $250,000 worth of his autobiography to giveaway instead of campaign brochures. Lindell said his campaign received guidance from the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board before the pillow giveaway, but representatives from the board were not able to confirm that, KSTP wrote. Hamline University campaign finance expert David Schultz said the Lindell campaign is in a legal gray area, including influencing people to vote a certain way, buying products from his own company with campaign funds and possibly getting them at a discounted price, KSTP wrote. Lindell finished third behind Kendall Qualls and Lisa Demuth in the fight for the party endorsement at the GOP state convention.
