Surveys tracking trust in higher education and its representatives paint a sobering picture (e.g., Gallup, 2025; 2026). Interestingly, one’s own educational achievement is not a good predictor of one’s attitude toward higher education. It is my impression that professors work harder than ever. The evidence I have seen suggests that most professors and most students work hard and ethically most of the time.
