New York City native Luis Garcia Jr. is heading to his hometown team. Garcia has played only first base this season, and the Yankees already have Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt sharing time at the position when Rice isn’t the DH. It’s possible the Bombers could return Garcia to second base, thus perhaps shifting Jazz Chisholm Jr. over to third base to supplant Ryan McMahon. A five-game losing streak has dropped the Nats to 55-58, and perhaps sealed their decision to trade Garcia. This four-player combination of immediate and longer-term pitching help allowed the Yankees to win the bidding for Garcia.
