“The Rath Yatra of Mahaprabhu Jagannatha is a timeless civilisational expression that showcases India’s diversity and spiritual ethos.
Such recognition, he said, would not only elevate the global stature of the Rath Yatra but also contribute to its preservation and promotion for future generations.
The Chief Minister also conveyed the state’s readiness to provide any additional information or assistance required to strengthen the nomination.
The Rath Yatra, held annually in Puri, draws millions of devotees who participate in the grand procession of the deities—Mahaprabhu Jagannatha, Mahaprabhu Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—on elaborately crafted chariots.
Its inclusion in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list would place it among globally recognized traditions, reinforcing India’s cultural legacy on the world stage.
