Pippin, an eponymous story, follows the title character, Pippin, as he comes of age and begins to figure out what he wants to do with his life. Pippin desperately searches to be fulfilled and do something with purpose, which he struggles to find. When I saw that performed in first year, it was brilliant, and the University of Leeds ensemble have not lost their shine since then. Lucy Butterworth as Catherine created clear chemistry with Aaron Collin’s portrayal of Pippin, which centralised Pippin’s purpose for love. Overall, this performance of Schwartz’s Pippin was commendable in all aspects: the stage design, costumes, music and performance.
