Alistair Cameron, father of victim Tia Cameron, was in court to hear the appeal judgment. The driver had already committed the offence of careless driving when he tried to avoid multiple lanes of halted traffic in front of him. Family and friends of Tia Cameron attended the one-day trial in 2025. Queensland's maximum sentence for careless driving causing death is 12 months imprisonment or a $13,800 fine.
