Paul Chasney of the family-owned Goose Beck Vineyard at Bilton-in-Ainsty spoke of how the vineyard was formed and gave a progress report at the York Press/ York St John University networking event last Thursday. Goose Beck, located between York and Wetherby was established in 2021 during the pandemic and it harvested its first commercial crop in 2025, producing 5,500 bottles. RECOMMENDED READING:The 8-acre vineyard features more than 15,000 vines across 15 varieties, many of which are 'PIWI' types bred for disease resistance and shorter growing seasons. Overall the UK has some 1,200 vineyards, with around 20 in Yorkshire, with ten of them on the Yorkshire Wine Trail, including Goose Beck, with them all producing very different wines.
