What will it take for Andy Burnham to stop faffing about and do something to stop the death by a thousand cuts of the North Sea oil and gas sector? I mean, if BP selling off its operations in the basin isn’t a huge flashing red light, klaxon blaring “DANGER, DANGER, DANGER”, then what the hell is? We are talking about the actual architects of the North Sea oil bonanza, the company that first brought the black gold ashore some 51 years ago. We need Mr Burnham to unequivocally say reports of the death of the North Sea sector have been grossly exaggerated and let the world know it is open for business. And if he wants to disprove that, he can start by giving the North Sea energy sector every help and support it needs now and ensure it truly can transition to a prosperous future.
