Much to running back Jaylen Warren’s dismay, the Pittsburgh Steelers held their first padded practice of the summer, and the popular back-on-backers drill wasn’t on the schedule Monday.
The fifth-year pro has become the biggest promoter of the violent, pass-blocking drill, but its fate under new coach Mike McCarthy is unclear.
• There were very few hits in team drills on the first day of pads, with McCarthy describing the practice as in “restricted mode.”
• The offense went 0 for 2 in the 2-minute drill with Aaron Rodgers throwing an interception in the end zone.
Rodgers moved the team 57 yards, gained on two catches by DK Metcalf (35 yards) and two carries and a catch by Dowdle (22 yards).
