Peter Kavanagh, CEO of BESS developer Harmony Energy, discussed the recent acquisition of the company by Alpiq as well as the latest with LDES and grid in the UK. The firm started as a UK BESS developer but has now expanded to France, Germany and Poland. GridKavanagh also shared his thoughts on two of the biggest topics in the UK clean energy market: the ongoing grid connection reform and the long-duration energy storage (LDES) cap-and-floor, for which the shortlist of winning projects was recently revealed. Last year, several BESS operators, including Harmony Energy and Zenobē, signed an open letter opposing the scheme, saying it would distort the market and negatively affect the buildout of short-duration BESS. “I don’t want to speak too early, and I think LDES in some form is obviously crucial,” Kavanagh said.
