Who Belongs Outdoors? One Woman Is Changing Face of Rhode Island Recreation

While some of them arrived as first-timers, others returned for another morning outing with a community they had found through Roam Loud Outdoors.
Despite living in Rhode Island nearly her entire life, she said she hadn’t explored many of the state’s hiking trails herself.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management doesn’t track the demographics of outdoor recreation participants, but residents surveyed for the state’s comprehensive outdoor recreation plan identified hiking as one of their favorite activities.
For now, she said, the focus is on exploring as many Rhode Island trails as possible.
