Chennai, Aug 4:Tamil Nadu Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested by police on Tuesday in connection with the controversy over his alleged derogatory remark about actor Trisha during a public rally. He was subsequently taken to Thanjavur for interrogation, officials said. The arrest follows widespread outrage over comments reportedly made by Udhayanidhi while addressing a protest on the Cauvery issue in Thanjavur. The remark, made in response to slogans raised by the crowd, drew sharp criticism from political leaders, members of the film industry and the public, who termed it inappropriate and offensive. Political observers noted that the controversy has overshadowed key issues such as the Cauvery dispute, diverting attention to the conduct of public figures.
