Scotland's top judge ruled that Peter Murrell's reaction to his jail sentence could not be filmed after concerns were raised that he could be turned into a social media meme.
Ms Sturgeon this week turned her fury on her ex by accusing him of exposing her to 'suspicion, humiliation and vilification'.
Part of Murrell's sentencing hearing was filmed by the BBC in June, including his arrival and departure from court.
But messages released under freedom of information legislation reveal that there was opposition to a request to film Murrell's response while being sentenced.
