FIFA President Gianni Infantino is praying for the White House’s support as he tries to quell outrage caused by plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private equity firms, but it remains unclear whether President Donald Trump will intervene.

The FIFA president acknowledged that the proposal “created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place.”
