The Burien Severe Weather Shelter will keep its day center open extra hours this week because of heat and wildfire smoke, according to shelter organizers. In addition to regular hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the center is planning to open from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6. The extended hours offer a place for people in Burien and nearby South King County communities to get indoors during unhealthy weather conditions.
