Two professors from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics have been making efforts to improve accessibility to dental care for Iowa residents.
Dr. Leo Marchini and graduate program director John Warren, both professors in the dental college’s Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry have helped bring dental care to disabled and low income Iowans.
He said the UI College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics has been a “pioneer” in this type of work.
“We see patients from all 99 counties in Iowa [primarily] older adults with disabilities and adults with special health care needs that otherwise would probably not find care in the state.”
Marchini said the UI College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics, which is the only dental college in the state of Iowa, differs from other dental programs that are more focused on aesthetics and other aspects of dental care.
