OKC Zoo Announces Asian Elephant Kairavi Is Pregnant with First Calf

Zoo officials announced that 7-year-old Asian elephant Kairavi, known as “Kai,” is pregnant with her first calf and is expected to give birth in June 2027.
The upcoming birth follows a busy period for the Zoo’s elephant program, which welcomed male calf Xerxes in May 2025 and a female calf on June 26, 2026.
OKC Zoo Asian elephant Kairavi credit Dr. Jennifer D“Kai is about halfway through her nearly 22-month pregnancy,” said Dr. Jennifer D’Agostino, the Zoo’s chief animal program officer.
When Kai’s calf arrives next summer, the Zoo’s elephant herd will grow to 10 animals spanning three generations.
August is recognized as Asian Elephant Awareness Month, and the Zoo is encouraging the public to learn more about elephant conservation through its social media channels.
