LaDonna Gaines, later known to the world as Donna Summer, became the Queen of Disco with her provocative, 17-minute-long 1975 hit, “Love to Love You Baby,” but her work far transcended that genre.
From there, she moved to Germany to perform in the musical Hair.
When “Love to Love You Baby” made her a star, Summer moved to Los Angeles after seven years in Germany.
Summer’s first hit in America, “Love to Love You Baby,” was released the previous year; shortly after, she moved back to the States.
