The Yampa Valley Regional Airport will host a regional fire response team of two Sikorsky Skycrane helicopters as part of the U.S. Forest Service’s Operation Sky Hammer for a second consecutive year this wildfire season, according to a statement released on Monday. The helicopters, first deployed at YVRA in July 2025, are on standby for rapid regional wildfire response, enabling faster and more efficient deployment when wildfires ignite. The team can also take advantage of YVRA amenities while on-site during the contract period. Airport Director Tinneal Gerber said in the statement that the partnership reinforces YVRA’s shared commitment to wildfire preparedness and rapid response. “By providing critical infrastructure and support, we’re helping strengthen readiness and protect our community and region during peak fire season,” she added.
