Campaign literature released by Mr McPhillips confirms he will contest the Erne East District Electoral Area, asking voters to give him their first preference.
Mr. McPhillips served as an SDLP MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone before losing his Assembly seat in the 2017 election.
The election leaflet describes him as an “Independent for Erne East” and highlights what it calls “120 years of political life”, featuring photographs of four generations of the McPhillips family involved in politics.
On healthcare, he pledges to continue campaigning for improved local services, shorter waiting lists and greater support for patients across Erne East.
The campaign material also invites residents to become involved in his election campaign, with Mr. McPhillips stating that, as an independent voice, he will continue to listen to, represent and deliver for the people of Erne East.
