Dates and times of M6 closure as 50 year old bridge undergoes work this month

National Highways has announced that works will affect a section of the M6 at Lowther Bridge near Penrith starting Saturday, August 8, with installation of permanent expansion joints expected to be finished by the end of this month.
Work will include the installation of permanent expansion joints, repairs to the bridge deck, waterproofing, resurfacing, and replacement of road markings.
The northbound carriageway will be closed between Junction 39 at Shap and Junction 40 at Penrith from 10pm to 6am on August 8, 15, and 22.
The southbound carriageway will be closed during the same hours on August 9, 16, and 23.
Lowther Bridge, which carries the M6 over the River Lowther, is more than 50 years old.
