Whitehaven Coastguard was tasked to separate incidents across the region on Monday, August 3, including a rescue at sea, assistance to police, and a search for missing paddleboarders. Shortly after, Whitehaven Coastguard was asked to support Cumbria Police with an incident nearby, which was resolved without further issue. The team was then called to Derwentwater as part of a multi-agency response to search for two missing paddleboarders. A Whitehaven Coastguard spokesman said: "HM Coastguard are responsible for the initiation and coordination of civil maritime search and rescue within the UK search and rescue region. "This includes the mobilisation, organisation and tasking of adequate resources to respond to persons either in distress at sea, or to persons at risk of injury or death."
