The future of this year’s Mayberry Days event in neighboring Mount Airy, North Carolina is in doubt as the nearby Ararat River reached a record crest of 29 feet while destroying millions of dollars in businesses and public infrastructure. Six water rescues were conducted as Mount Airy officials declared a State of Emergency when the Piedmont received 5 to 10 inches of rain in just a few hours.
