He noted that it becomes extremely challenging when players report injuries on match day, particularly in Test cricket where team balance is crucial. Gill stressed that the squad must improve its overall fitness standards to minimise such disruptions in future. The BCCI’s Centre of Excellence has also come under the spotlight, with questions reportedly being raised over player workload management, rehabilitation programmes and decisions surrounding the return of injured cricketers.
