Construction crews drill wells for border wall construction on Thursday, July 2, 2026, in Luna County, N.M., along the US-Mexico border.
Russell Johnson via APUS Customs and Border Protection, which oversees border wall construction, has said water is needed to make concrete for roads, wall construction and dust suppression.
A spokesperson for CBP said on Monday that border wall contractors in New Mexico have been instructed to stop drilling new wells, but did not comment on whether the wells already drilled could be pumped.
As a former Border Patrol agent, he supports the border wall but doesn’t believe it should cost him his livelihood.
