I am honoured to talk to you on the topic “Emancipation: Our Collective Business of Freedom”. From this definition, emancipation appears to be a verb (an action word); it suggests that freedom comes with the responsibility of acting like free peoples. Today, I want to remind us of the significance of Emancipation and Emancipation Day and our role in understanding the contributions we must make to the business of freedom. As time went by, the descendants of the enslaved peoples emerged as key players in the business of freedom. Grenada also produced Eric Gairy, the Father of Independence, who was also a stalwart in the business of freedom.
