MÉRIDA, YUCATÁN — Construction on Mérida’s first Green Corridor, located in the neighborhood of Caucel, has reached 90 percent completion, according to Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada. The corridor will encompass distinct ecological zones, including a Solar Garden with fruit-bearing trees, a Rejollada Garden, and a Low Deciduous Forest Garden tailored to the local ecosystem. Infrastructure elements include a central pedestrian trail, social gathering areas, an ecological pond with a footbridge, and low-intensity electrical lighting. Mayor Patrón highlighted that lighting will remain deliberately dim, with certain sections unlit at night, to avoid disrupting wildlife habitats and nocturnal species. By prioritizing environmental regulation, carbon capture, and ecosystem support, municipal authorities hope the Caucel Green Corridor will serve as a model for sustainable urban planning throughout Mérida.
