Owen was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today, Monday, which heard that Jaguar Land Rover spent £50million to combat the extensive coverage that his lie had generated.
Following an investigation, the defendant was charged with dangerous driving and two counts of fraud by false representation.
Following the incident, Jaguar Land Rover launched an investigation, as well as Merseyside Police, and no fault with the vehicle could be found.
The court also heard that Jaguar Land Rover had identified copycat allegations as a result of what the defendant had done through publicity of the case.
