A high mast light providing floodlight to the evening sporting events crashed in the Railway Grounds in Visakhapatnam on Monday due to thunderstorms followed by high velocity winds. The post standing at a height of 35 meters 50 feet was among the eight high-mast lights that are frequently used for cricket. Fortunately, there were no injuries as the mast fell on the viewers' side of the stadium. “It might have crashed due to the high velocity winds that swept the railway station area after a thunderstorm,’’ said cyclone warning centre director PLN Murthy. The CWC director said there was moderate rain measuring up to one centimeter due to the thunderstorm in NAD, Railway Station area, Madhavadhara and airport.
