Hyderabad: The state government has finalised the operational guidelines for implementing the Telangana Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2026, The move comes amid mounting pressure from gig workers' unions, which have announced an indefinite strike from August 8 demanding immediate wage reforms and social security measures.
The law is likely to come into force from August 15, Independence Day, sources said.
Despite the gazette notification, the Act could not be brought into force for more than three months due to the absence of operational guidelines required for its implementation.
Sources added that officials had submitted the draft guidelines to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) for approval.
The SHAKTI department has simultaneously accelerated preparations for implementing the legislation aimed to provide social security benefits to workers engaged through digital platforms.
