MAHABUBABAD: The Telangana government is committed to strengthening Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and expanding self-employment opportunities to promote women's economic empowerment, panchayat raj, rural development and women & child welfare minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) said on Monday.
Addressing a meeting of Women SHG representatives at Gangaram mandal in Mahabubabad district, the Minister said the government is implementing several initiatives to improve the livelihoods of rural women and transform SHGs into sustainable income-generating units.
As part of the programme, the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) distributed 750 vegetable seed kits, each containing seeds of ten vegetable varieties, to SHG members.
Seethakka urged the beneficiaries to cultivate vegetables to meet household needs and sell the surplus in the market to generate additional income.
She called upon women to utilise various government welfare schemes and develop SHGs into centres of production, employment and income generation rather than limiting their activities to savings.
