The men—Amit Kumar, Chhot Singh Dhurve, Jeet Singh Dhurve, Karan Singh Maravi, Pramod Singh, Sanjay Markam and Santosh Paraste—were also fined 100,000 rupees each.
According to accounts from Christian advocacy groups, a crowd of Hindu nationalists surrounded the home of Suday Singh Maravi while relatives and friends celebrated his 5-year-old daughter’s birthday.
Maravi called police seeking protection, but officers arrested the seven Christians after a neighbor accused them of offering money to induce conversions.
The court nevertheless convicted the men under the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.
Open Doors ranked India 12th on its 2026 World Watch List of countries where Christians face the most severe persecution.
