CyberWell, a nonprofit working with major social platforms to combat online antisemitism, has alerted X after detecting a new wave of conspiracy theories falsely blaming Jews for wildfires across Europe. Analysts identified posts in English, French and Spanish claiming Jews had deliberately started the blazes or engineered them for political or financial gain. CyberWell said the pattern fits a recurring form of “event-driven antisemitism,” in which major crises are quickly twisted into hate targeting Jews. As the material spread, some posts escalated into dehumanising language, calls to expel Jews and familiar antisemitic imagery, including the “Happy Merchant” caricature. CyberWell urged platforms to improve detection of recurring antisemitic tropes, close policy gaps around scapegoating, enforce rules consistently and deepen partnerships with hate-speech specialists.
