The Applied Community and Economic Development (ACED) program at Illinois State University’s Stevenson Center prepares students to become leaders who address complex community challenges through the integration of research, policy, and service. Cutsimpumu’s background in community health has reinforced her belief that public health and economic development are deeply connected. She views ACED as the ideal bridge between her public health experience and broader community development goals. Rather than simply studying community development, ACED Fellows actively contribute to initiatives that improve economic opportunity, public health, environmental sustainability, and social equity. As these fellows demonstrate, the future of community development is being shaped by leaders who are committed to collaboration, innovation, and service.
