This role follows a 20-year hiatus from the company, which I previously served as sports editor from 1990 to 2006. During those 16 years, I worked at two different Press locations, both on 1st Street West, one downtown and the other on the west side of the city, just off State Avenue. Today, I’m at my third stop on Sims Street, inside the former F.W. It first opened in 1927 on Villard Street, moved to 1st Street West in 1948, and eventually relocated to Sims Street in 1970, when it expanded into a massive, two-level department store. In 1980, as a 16-year-old high schooler, I was hired as a stock boy alongside one of my classmates.
