Hong Kong‘s Palace Museum (HKPM) has announced that its director, Louis Ng, will retire from his role in January of 2027 after completing his seven year contract. Ng oversaw the construction of the museum before becoming its inaugural director in 2019. Prior to his tenure at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, Ng directed the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence, an institution dedicated to the military defenses of Hong Kong’s coast since the Ming Dynasty. Ng also served as Executive Secretary of the Antiquities and Monument Office in Hong Kong from 2002 to 2006. Following the HKPM’s 2022 opening, Ng shepherded the Rocco Yim-designed museum through the organization of 40 thematic and special exhibitions, as well as collaborations with the Palace Museum in Beijing.
