Paris’s Palais de Tokyo will close for repairs in July 2027, necessitating a temporary move to a location that turns out to be hotly contested, French daily Libération reports. The move has raised hackles, however, as the annex, a former conservatory, has since 2019 been the home of La Générale, one of Paris’s first artist-run spaces. Sébastien Jamain, a volunteer with La Générale, told Libération that he and others had accidentally walked in on a Palais de Tokyo technical manager measuring their building shortly thereafter. “La Générale’s needs have not changed since we moved into the premises seven years ago,” said the organization. A petition supporting La Générale has to date gained nearly fourteen hundred signatures.
