Health insurers would be required to automatically provide coverage to newborns under their mother’s insurance for 30 days after birth under newly introduced legislation led by U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA). The No Surprise Bills for New Moms Act, H.R. “Parents shouldn’t be hit with surprise medical bills for their newborn because big health insurance companies prioritize their bottom line over working families,” Rep. Hinson said. “This bipartisan bill holds insurance companies accountable, ensures newborns have seamless coverage, and gives new parents one less thing to worry about so they can focus on keeping their babies healthy and happy.” The measure has been referred to the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, the U.S. House Education and the Workforce Committee, and the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee for consideration.
