Enterprise cloud spending just posted its 11th straight quarter of accelerating growth, and at this point the pattern is hard to describe as anything other than an AI-driven boom. Global spending on cloud infrastructure services climbed by more than $43 billion year over year in the second quarter of 2026, reaching $143 billion total, according to new research from Synergy Research Group. The market has effectively doubled in size over roughly the same stretch these quarterly increases have been building, and generative AI keeps showing up as the primary driver behind that growth. He pointed specifically to generative AI cloud services, which are growing at 165% year over year, as the clearest signal of where demand is concentrated. But he also noted something less obvious: AI isn’t just driving its own dedicated services, it’s improving functionality and boosting growth across a much wider range of existing cloud products too.
