Monday, August 03, 2026 - Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condemned the arrest of Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia, describing it as a misuse of the criminal justice system to persecute political rivals. In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, Gachagua accused the government of selectively applying the law to manage politics, branding the move “cowardly and counterproductive.” Gachagua argued that Ruto had benefited politically from such persecution when he was Deputy President, yet now appeared to be repeating the same tactics. He further suggested that the problem might lie within State House itself, questioning why leaders change once they assume the presidency. He was later taken to DCI headquarters for questioning, with his legal team claiming they were denied access to him.
