Residents of the Nooaitch Indian Band’s main reserve will be able to return home this morning after the band lifted its evacuation order for the community.
In an update issued late Sunday (Aug. 2), the band said the order will be downgraded to an evacuation alert effective 8 a.m. Monday (Aug. 3) following recommendations from the BC Wildfire Service and in agreement with the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
Residents are permitted to return after 8 a.m. but are being reminded to use caution, as emergency crews, contractors and heavy equipment may still be working in the area.
The evacuation order had been in place since July 25 as the Brunswick Complex wildfire threatened the community.
The band’s emergency operations centre will remain active as crews continue responding to the wildfire.
