The Michigan Supreme Court has overturned a permit for Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline project and has ordered a new review.
The Michigan Supreme Court has now overturned a permit for Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline project and has ordered a new review.
Several tribal and environmental groups challenged a ruling in February that upheld the permit, which looks to replace a section of the 73-year-old pipeline, and took their appeal to the Michigan Supreme Court, who overturned it.
Advocates are toting the ruling as a win, citing the Michigan Environmental Protection Act, and the impact this will have on future generations.
The permit will now be sent back to the Michigan Public Service Commission for a deeper review of the impact on residents and the environment.
