South African authorities have unveiled a comprehensive draft framework targeting cross-border cryptocurrency transactions. Under the proposed framework, a transaction becomes reportable when cryptocurrency transfers from a domestic authorized intermediary to an overseas service provider. Nevertheless, cryptocurrency transactions occurring entirely within South Africa would fall outside these international reporting mandates. International Cryptocurrency Movements Require Authorized IntermediariesDuring the framework’s introductory period, only individual users would be permitted to transfer cryptocurrency assets internationally. The public comment period remains active until September 30, as South Africa progresses with adoption of international cryptocurrency reporting standards.
