A motorist in Donegal was clocked driving at 159km/h on Bank Holiday Monday. The driver was detected by the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit in a speed zone of 100 km/h in the Newtowncunningham area. Another motorist was detected travelling at 123 km/h in a speed zone of 80 km/h in the Muff area. A Garda spokesperson said: “Speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal road traffic collisions. “Every kilometre per hour over the speed limit increases the likelihood of a collision and dramatically increases the risk of death or serious injury.”
