Two people have died in connection with Michigan’s ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak as the statewide case count surpassed 11,000, state health officials announced Monday.
The deaths are the first confirmed in the United States related to the current outbreak, according to The Associated Press.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 11,234 cases as of Aug. 3.
State officials say lettuce or salad greens may be involved, but other foods have not been ruled out.
No single product, grower or supplier has been linked to all Michigan cases.
