Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which runs Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express services, is partnering with the University of Brighton and the University of Chichester to offer part-time, paid positions as On Board Supervisors through a new pilot scheme. Jenny Saunders, customer services director at GTR, said: "This scheme gave us a great opportunity to try something new because our specific requirements didn’t meet the threshold for more traditional full time or part time roles. "Our new recruits are contracted to work one day a week, during the weekend, so the shift doesn’t interrupt their weekday study commitments. Five students from the University of Brighton and one from the University of Chichester are currently undergoing eight weeks of training before stepping into the OBS roles. The scheme supports GTR's broader commitment to increasing youth employment by doubling its 16-24-year-old workforce.
