Armstrong's special session is responsive to public health and law enforcement officials hitting the alarm button. Armstrong, meanwhile, can only make it an infraction to deal kratom, and only temporarily thanks to pandemic-era restrictions lawmakers appropriately placed on executive branch public health orders. What the governor wants is a ban on all kratom, be it synthetic or botanical (note the DEA order only deals with synthetic kratom). What he seems willing to settle for is a ban on synthetic kratom and some tougher regulations for the botanical variety, including age restrictions. We also don't need to be selling highly enhanced synthetic kratom that can deliver highs not unlike those achieved through opioids.
