GRAND FORKS — A nationwide shortage of blood is being felt at Altru as Dak Minn Blood Bank is hosting an emergency blood donation event at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on Wednesday.
The nationwide blood shortage has put blood suppliers in a position where they have been unable to provide supplemental units due to limited inventories in their own regions.
Last week, the American Red Cross declared its second-ever national blood supply crisis and called for immediate blood donations.
Dak Minn Blood Bank is seeking Type O positive donations, particularly, due to a “critical shortage.”
Vacations and increase in usage have previously impacted blood donations at the blood bank, as Dennison has noticed shortages in past years during July 4 and the holiday season.
