The city of Bowling Green has opened applications for a program designed to connect WKU students more deeply with their local community.
Last year, 20 students graduated from this program; now, due to its success, the academy will span a month longer and accept five more students, according to Butler.
Last year, the academy introduced students to over 40 downtown businesses to build connections within the community, Butler said.
“Students gain professional relationships, leadership experience and a deeper understanding of how a community functions beyond the university,” Butler said.
The academy helps students look forward past the university bubble and find a path for themselves in their own communities.
